• Are new students required to complete the 'Summer Reading' assignments?

  We encourage our new students to complete the summer assignments.  If you are transferring in closer to the start date of school, then we completely understand the impossibility.  You can find our reading and assignment lists below.

• Are there new student functions to be aware of?

  Yes!  Back to school family function dates are as follows: (Some dates not set)
  
  

  • PICNIC ON THE PLAYGROUND - is for ALL preschool - 5th grade families INCLUDING our new families!  Pack your own picnic and join our elementary administration on the playground for a super fun playdate/meet-up on: TBA
  • BEAR BEGINNINGS - for NEW 6th-12th grade students and families - Meet the administration, decorate/stuff your lockers, walk your schedule and get connected!  Administration and student council representatives will host an informative orientation and then you will be accompanied to your hallways, lockers.  This event is only for new middle and high school families and is just a way to get the ‘lay of the land’ before ALL students are on campus at the Back to School BASH.  Dates and Times: TBA

  • BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH - ALL SCHOOL - Meet your teachers, bring your school supplies, get your BEARWEAR, sign up for parent organizations, etc.  Date and Time: TBA
  • NEW MOMS COFFEE – TBA - 8:30am in the lower school library for ALL new moms
  • NEW FAMILY TAILGATE - at the first HOME football game.  FRIDAY, AUGUST 22nd, 2025.  Join the admissions staff and our parent ambassadors under the big tent for a cookout in The Grove at 6pm.

• My student is interested in athletics. How can I get in touch with their coach?

  Contact information for all sports from 5th-12th grades can be found on this document.  Visit our athletic webpage for schedules and additional information.

• How and when do we purchase Bear Wear?

  Every Friday is Bear Wear Day at DA!  The Bear Wear store is in the lower school lobby and is open every Friday morning from 7:30 - 8am.  DA Bear Wear is also available at 'Back to School Bash' and every home varsity football game.

• How does the cafeteria program work?

  Students can either bring their own lunch (microwaves are available for grades 3 - 8) or purchase lunch from our cafeteria program.  Their school id card is what they use to charge it to your account.  If you would like to monitor your student's charges, you can log onto www.mykidsspending.com to see their cafeteria purchases. Our menus are posted for parents each week in the parent portal or you can view them here.

• Is there a Davidson Academy Handbook?

  Yes!  Here is a LINK TO OUR HANDBOOK, and you can also find it under the parent resource portal.

• My child has a health concern I would like to discuss. Who do we talk to about that?

  Davidson Academy has a full-time school nurse.  Her name is Karen Tressler and you can contact her directly at ktressler@davidsonacademy.com or you can call her directly at 615-860-5316.

• How can I become involved as a parent?

  The Davidson Engagement Network (The D.E.N.) is very active and hosts meetings and events throughout the year.  
  
  The Davidson Academy Athletic Boosters (DAAB) club proudly provides financial and non-financial support to Davidson Academy and its athletic programs.
  
  The DA Friends of the Arts (FOE) is our Fine Arts parent group supporting our arts programs.

• What type of uniforms does DA require and where can they be purchased?

  DA uniforms are purchased through Max & Alice School Uniforms.

  There is also a parent-run private Facebook uniform resale group page.  You can search 'Davidson Academy Uniform - Buy/Sell/Trade' and ask to become a member.

• When can my student sign up for clubs or sports they are interested in?

  The middle and high school students have a special club fair day at the beginning of the school year where they sign up for what they are interested in.  If you have a special interest in a certain area, we encourage you to email that particular teacher/coach/sponsor and start a conversation!

• When is the first day of school?

  The first day of school is Thursday, August 7th, 2025
  

• When will my student get access to their locker?

  At 'Bear Beginnings' and 'Back to School Bash', locker numbers are posted and students can have access those nights, or on the first day of school.

• When will my student receive their textbooks and device?

  Email notifications will be sent to parents in July for 8th through 12th grade students to sign up for a time to come in and pick up their device.
  
  Students in 6-7 grades will receive their computers in their classroom during the first day of classes.
  
  Textbooks are either loaded onto student's individual devices or in their classroom on the first day of school.

• When will our elementary students know who their teacher is?

  At our 'Back to School Bash', Monday, August 5th, elementary teachers are posted and students can have access to their classroom that night.

• When will we know our student schedule?

  Schedules are created over the summer months by our middle and high school administrators.  Students are usually notified by the end of July.

• Where can I find information about DA's Before and After School Program and Summer Bear Camp?
