About

Prayer Garden and Arboretum

Dr. Janice Baldwin served as the Lower School Principal from 1998 - 2018 and her entire career at Davidson Academy spanned a total of 40 years. The prayer garden and arboretum was named in her honor at a special dedication ceremony in April 2018.

The garden was featured on Anne Holt's Tennessee and Volunteer Gardener
The garden is a unique space where students can learn, play, and pray. A year-round water feature, wooden cross, and mature magnolia create a restful place for prayer and reflection. Along the meandering sidewalk are interesting stops along the way such as an eclectic trial garden, the big rock hangout, and the little library. The garden and arboretum provide a resource for outdoor education and the open grass meadow is perfect for children to run and play.

The arboretum is certified by the Nashville Tree Foundation and the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council and includes 51 different types of trees all planted in memory or honor of someone special.

Nature Trail

Our 68 acre campus is certified by the Tennessee Wildlife Foundation as a Wildlife Habitat. The one mile long campus trail was created in 2015.
